Shelley Lewin is a Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor and Group Fitness Instructor in Cape Town, South Africa. She is proud to now add the Pre and Post Natal Corrective Exercise Specialist Certification to that list. She has been in the Fitness Industry for over 12 years and has been running her own business, Homefit, for about 9 years. Homefit offers mobile training to their clients at their homes, workplace or suitable outdoor venue.
Since completing the Pre & Post Natal Corrective Exercise Specialist Course, Shelley has shifted her focus to primarily the pre and postnatal population. “Working with new and expecting Moms is such a privilege and the course has given me all the tools to do so safely and effectively. I have also found a studio to work from to give small ‘Fit For Birth’ classes so that it is more accessible and affordable to a wider group of Moms. I have added a blog to my website which will be primarily focusing on pre and postnatal topics. I am also looking into giving a community based Prenatal fitness class once a week.”
Shelley’s son, Tyler, is almost two years old, and signifies some of her motivations in this field. Shelley felt empowered because of her own fit and active pregnancy. “I love teaching other Moms how to train safely during pregnancy and again shortly afterwards. My focus since having a child has been more on being healthy and strong so I can be the best Mom possible and have the energy to do it. Many Moms neglect this either when pregnant or after having children and I like to show them ways to bring activity back into their lives even when things seems hectic.”
Shelley says that Fit For Birth’s Pre & Post Natal Corrective Exercise course has been one of the best courses she has ever taken. “It is such a well-rounded, holistic course and everything I learnt really resonated with me. I have found the course also brought together all the other fitness courses and trainings I have done over the years and everything has fallen so much more into place. I teach this work now to all my clients especially the diaphragmatic breathing and belly pump mechanism which is huge and life-changing.”
Shelley plans to be the Pre and Postnatal Fitness ‘Go to Person’ in Cape Town. She wants to keep growing her business in the pre and postnatal field, and eventually create a permanent base from which to work. She is also interested in expanding her knowledge base with nutrition, as well as hypnobirthing.
Thank you, Shelley, for the passionate work that you are doing in this field! We, at Fit For Birth, are very excited to see you and your business flourish.
